Layered Painted Paper Snowflakes

Grade 2 students made these lovely layered snowflakes using watercolours.

I traced thee different sizes of circles onto large 11 x 17" white photocopy paper. I made a photocopy for each student. They painted these using watercolours; you could also use tempera or tempera cakes. 

Cut all three circles out.

I showed them how to fold each circle three times and then cut into it to create a frilly snowflake. 

Glue all three snowflakes together, going from largest to smallest. 

Choose a plastic gem and glue it to the center for a bit of razzle dazzle!

Winter Themed Collage Art

I wanted to highlight some of the super cute art that comes out of the After Care program at my school! 

They recently hung these delightful winter themed collage projects- I love the bright colours!

 

Crazy Carrots Collage

This is a super cute and fun project I did years ago with my Grade 2 class. 

I found the project HERE. There is a link to the writing prompt template.

So first I had the kiddos make their "crazy carrot" collage out of construction paper. They could make them however they wanted, but I encouraged something crazy or silly or creative.

Then they filled out the writing prompt and I glued their carrot to it. 

They look so cute and funny all together! 

 

Paul Klee Cat in chalk pastel

This is a really popular art lesson with elementary Art teachers everywhere and for good reason. It combines art history with the art elements of shape and colour. Plus all kids love animal themed art projects! This one will have all the cat lovers in your class very happy.

I show Grade 2 students Klee's famous work seen below. We discuss the shapes used, how he might have drawn it, the colours and colour blending and the symbols they can see within the painting. 

                     

                                

             I project the painting onto my TV so the kids can refer to it while they draw/colour. 

 

They start off my drawing the cat head shapes and then add the bird and circle above it. 

Outline everything with a black wax crayon or oil pastel.

Then we use my least favourite art supply ------> chalk pastels!

They are excellent for blending and getting a nice diffused look so work well for this project. 

Keep wet cloths at each table so the kids can wipe their fingers off.
