Frosty Snowflakes with Winter Quotes

This was a two day project that I managed to squeeze into the last week of school before Christmas vacation. I originally saw a version of this project somewhere online, but I can't remember where. If it's your lesson- please leave a comment so I can credit you!

The first class, students created a watercolour background using liquid watercolours and salt. This creates a frosty pattern effect. 

Next class, students cut out a snowflake (this gets harder and harder each year with students I find). They glued this onto their background along with a winter themed quite they chose.

I mounted them onto larger blue paper and they created designs 

in the border using a paint pen. 

Grade 4/5 results!

 

3D Paper Snowman

These were all created using coloured photocopy paper. Perfect to use up any scraps you have lying around from past projects. Our students LOVED taking these home!!

 

Winter Bird Paper Craft

This is a cute and quick craft if you need a project to finish in one period. I taught these, with the help of the Kindergarten teacher team, in one 40 minute period to a mixed group of Kinder, Grade 1,2 and 3 students. This project is definitely too easy for Grade 3 students but they still seemed to enjoy it.

I found the lesson HERE on the craft website krokotak. They provide templates and everything you need for easy but cute crafts.

To save time, I pre-splattered white paint onto blue construction paper. 

I cut brown construction paper in half and printed off one bird template per student.

For the branch, we talked about tearing the paper to create texture to resemble bark. They did this step first. Tearing the paper into a strip proved challenging for some students for sure. 

But they got the hang of it. 

Then they coloured in the bird using pencil crayons, with accents of markers. I encouraged them to do a pattern on the scarf. Cut out the bird, fold down the wing flap and glue on top of the branch. Draw on legs with a marker. Everyone just managed to finish in the 40 minute period!

 

Watermelon Paper Craft

Here's an adorable summer craft if you're looking to keep your kiddos at home entertained, or maybe teach a summer camp. These were made by the after school kids at my school- their teachers often do cute crafts and art projects with them. Projects like these really help younger students strengthen their fine motor skills.

All you need is: coloured copy paper or cardstock or construction paper, scissors, glue stick, black markers.

Spring paper crafts for young students

Here are some charming Spring themed paper crafts made by our after school care students. This group is Kindergarten and Grade 1 students, I believe. Their teachers always hang up their work and make beautiful displays that really enhance the hallways.
