Black Glue Line African Animal art

This was another last project of last school year, and many didn't manage to finish. I always underestimate how long projects will take in June!

Anyway, I've posted about this lesson previously HERE. It fascinates me how different the skills and levels are each time I teach this project.

Cactus Watercolour Paintings

Here's another project where student can practice both their drawing skills as well as their watercolour painting skills.
I printed out sheets with lots of varieties of cacti. Grade 4-6 students drew their cacti in a pot on a table. They had to add a simple pattern to the background or be creative in some way. They were outlined in sharpie then painted using pan watercolours. For final details, paint pens were used to add additional patterns.

Hot Air Balloon Watercolour Painting

This is a lovely summer art project that just evokes happiness! It's a great lesson to teach the art element of SPACE. Students followed THIS tutorial, from Art Projects for Kids. Then they outlined in Sharpie and coloured with watercolour or pencil crayons, or both!
I taught this to Grades 4-6.

Glimpsing Galaxies watercolours

This is an amazing lesson that combines wet on wet watercolours techniques and one point perspective.
I found it on the art blog: Ms. Amsler's Artroom
She has all the steps, including wonderful watercolour tutorial, on her website- check it out!

NurkhiPaints Inspired Botanical Watercolours

Here's a lovely pen and watercolour project inspired by Vancouver artist  Nurkhi Paints.
I previously posted about this project HERE.

We watched some of her Instagram reels to get an idea of her process first.
Then students looked online for images of botanicals. Clip art images are a good starting point.
They sketched out just a contour drawing onto watercolour paper.

Then used the wet on wet technique to paint the plants. They needed to use at least two colours.

Once dry, they added parallel line work within each leaf using micron pens.
