Here are some examples of some portrait drawings in pencil by former students--- I usually have students draw both from life and from photos. We go over value, do a value scale and I demonstrate how to use a tortillon (blending stump) and kneadable eraser- both indespensible tools for drawing realistically, imo.
In the past, once these are completed, I have photocopied them and then the student can experiment with other media (oil pastels, watercolours, charcoal, etc) over the top, whilst still keeping the original.
Ta da!
Grade 9
Grade 12, self portrait
Love the idea that you photo copy the original and let your students try different media! Awesome!
