This is a great lesson for teaching how to realistically portray a polar bear using chalk pastels to help with shading. I found this project HERE but I think she was inspired by THIS POST from the blog Mary Making. Both lessons are excellent.
My kids started off my tearing a piece of white paper and gluing it to the bottom of light blue construction paper.
On black construction paper, using white chalk, draw a simple circle for the head
and the upper body of the bear.
Using the side of the chalk pastel, fill in everything and blend with your fingers.
Then draw on the facial features and fill in the ears with charcoal or black chalk pastel.
Cut out the bear and glue it to the blue background.
Use a white oil pastel to draw some snowflakes.
So cute!
