The on...Thanks for your kind comment, Julietcaesar. The one drawing book I often hear recommended for adults is "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain", by Betty Edwards. It's considered a classic. I've never read it completely myself, but have thumbed through it and there are some practical drawing exercises.

I normally don't refer to books- the fastest way, in my opinion, of learning 'how to draw', is through good old-fashioned observational drawing. Set up a simple object in front of you (ie: an apple) and draw it. Keep drawing it over an over again until it looks right. Then slowly try more complex shapes. Use a lamp for interesting lighting. This is a classic technique that all the Masters used. Hope this helps!Misshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14505411826646402867noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4277828168826201823.post-19958144487148100792012-02-21T18:29:39.259-07:002012-02-21T18:29:39.259-07:00I just stumbled upon your blog and fell in love! (My mother-in-law was also a Montessori school teacher, and I love the Montessori program!)

I've been trying to learn how to draw for quite some time now, but as I've only started as an adult, it's been very difficult to learn. Do you know of any books that are good for those that are beginning to draw?

Thank you so much for your help and for your fabulous blog!julietcaesarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17931209898937776179noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4277828168826201823.post-72347630161618570612012-02-19T16:15:45.938-07:002012-02-19T16:15:45.938-07:00Thanks for those great suggestions, Bea!You're...Thanks for those great suggestions, Bea!You're right- I could tack it up. It already has tack holes in the corners so it's not like I would be de-valuing it much more (Yes, I watch the Antiques Roadshow! Ha!ha!)

I'm thinking, in the end, it might be worth it to simply save up for an equally ginormous frame. It would be permanent, of course, so if you were to move, you wouldn't be able to take it with you.

2) same bare wall, but get some nice decorative or plain white tacks and tack it to the wall. This method of presentation would allow you to uninstall it at some point, leaving only tiny tack holes in the wall. Easily patched.

3) same bare wall, find some other kind of temporary adhesive tabs. There are many sold in office supply stores and walmart, etc. You'd have to use several packages to cover the entire breadth of the poster and to hold the weight so it would sag and fall.

I'm a fantasy genre fan as well, and a star wars fan. I have a couple of vintage star wars posters, and thought about pasting them to one of my walls recently, but the idea that the posters would be destroyed if I ever wanted to change up the walls made me go for the tack idea... I used some brand new white tacks and tacked one of the posters to a wall in my drawing room. It's defintely an eye-catching poster! It looks good, doesn't sag, and the wall can be patched whenever I feel the need to take it down. good luck with your poster display. I would love to hear how you finally decide to display it. You have to put it somewhere!!Beahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11879356290409283739noreply@blogger.com
